Dana 44 Spindles

I got a Dana 44 narrow track front axle from a 77 Cherokee and Iím planning on cutting 4 inch from the long side and changing it to a 5 on 5 Ĺ . Everything I checked said to use a 70ís Chevy front spindle and Ford rotors. What is the difference between the Cherokee spindle and the Chevy?

Re: Dana 44 Spindles

Your '77 Cherokee spindle will be the same as the early Chevy spindle. I don't know who's site you saw that said use the Chevy only, because the early Chevy and '74-77 Waggie/Cherokee spindles are identical.

Re: Dana 44 Spindles

your spindle should work.. as long as the inner and outer bearing surface looks to be about the same diameter.. the ones that wont work.. will have a larger inner bearing surface.. (diameter).. but they can be turned down on a lathe.. at a machine shop...

Re: Dana 44 Spindles

Well that will save me some money. As far as the machining goes, Since I'm a machine shop supervisor I don't think there will be a problem.

Thanks guys
