Re: OT: Please don\'t use H&R Block for your taxes

And this further little tidbit from their website:
"Take your taxes to your local H&R Block office this year, and Defenders of Wildlife will receive a contribution for each new customer."
Folks, TDW includes in their agenda the banning of OHVs from our public lands. Please spread the word on this eco-nazi supporting company.

Do it yourself with a computer program before you use a preparation service. If your not comfortable with that, than you need an accountant. Which I prefer anyway. Imagine the grocery clerk who does taxes as her second job explaining your aggressive deductions to an IRS auditor. Good Luck! I like someone with a degree, who does it for a living. Costs less in the long run also. Bet ya didn't know Jeeping was a business deduction, did ya?!

To hell with the green supporters!

Good advice BigHG. Unless you have very unusual business dealings a program like TurboTax will do an excellent job of maximizing your return. BTW, I'm a CPA and I use TurboTax for my personal and business taxes.

Re: OT: Please don\'t use H&R Block for your taxes

First of all, I have done my own taxes since my first job at 15(last 10 years). But, this year I received 3 w-2's, a 1099, about 15,000 miles on my work truck, and a form from my school to receive a credit for my education costs. So, with my busy schedule, I was going to break down and have them done for me, but H&R Block was who I was going to go to. I think now I'll try one of the computer programs this time. Any recommendations HG?

And please tell me more about your jeeping being a deduction. I spent about $6000 just in repairs/upgrades last year,(almost every upgrade was due to a repair) plus I bought my truck for work only, so a way to deduct them would be like inventing fire to me!

Re: OT: Please don\'t use H&R Block for your taxes

Jeeping as a business deduction, depends on what you do for a living. I get to deduct a lot of my Jeep expenses, but thats an easy one working for an OHV magazine. For a realtor that deals in off the beaten path properties, I could see a deduction, and of course there are other ways. You just gotta be creative, but still LEGAL. I worked for IRS for 9 years, so I understand the way things work fairly well, but if you're not a CPA or have very good knowledge of the tax laws, then be careful with what you deduct. Chances are you will never be audited, but then again...
