gas tank

Hi-
: I own a '99 jeep wrangler sahara edition that has been pretty much problem free from the date of purchase. recently though whenever I gas up it keeps on kicking back the pump as if it were full- I've been told that this is a "vapor lock" problem- is this correct and what can I do to fix it?
: Thanks
: Craig

Re: gas tank

Craig,
My 2000 Tj does the same thing. My solution is to back the fill nozzel out of the fill hole a little. Pump still kicks off when it is full, just loose (or lose) a few vapours to the atmosphere.

Re: gas tank

Mine does the same thing sometimes. It's got to do with the tight bends between the fill neck and the tank plus with self-service they have adjusted the pump sensors real sensitive. I tried for five minutes to put gas in my Jeep one place and only got a little over a gallon in. At another station, it filled until it spilled gas out onto the ground.

Try a different pump or a different station.

I've replaced so many parts that my old Jeep has become my new Jeep.
