odd source for YORK compressors

a guy I work with popped his hood today and I noticed his truck had a YORK mounted sideways, and it has the cool head witht the hose nipple fittings

its a early 70s Ford courier, I mean tiny little POS truck.

Ive seen a zillion of them in junkyards, couriers or mazda b2000s, and never thought o pop the hood and look.

parts is parts, Ill find out soon what stroke it is.

Ferd Motor Company has used about thirty Umsquamatillion Yorks on their line of products. York and Ford go Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back. That little POS will probably have a 6 point something cubic inch compressor. You could lay a wrench on the compressor and then let the wrench lie there. Leaking the freon out of the system would affect the immediate surroundings, but would have little effect globally.

Re: odd source for YORK compressors

your killing me man...

hehe

no kidding about the ford/york thing?
this truck is little more than a mazda sold by ford though, thats why I was suprised, I guess its possible FORD made a compact truck of proprietary design in the early 70s?

IM only interested in the flanged head, and the clutch, ive got plenty 10.3s

thanks for the language lesson! I can understand it now, and Ill try to remember past the next AM.

Re: odd source for YORK compressors

The Ferd Fal-Coon pickups went back to the early sixties, and were they ever crap! They also made the Ford Econoline Van with the Ford Falcon engine in it. The Fal-Coon engine had an annoying habit of twisting off the hex-shaped oil pump drive shaft if you reved it when the oil was cold. Of course the distributor was not "affected" so the "effect" on the engine
was that the crank just simply ran without oil and turned blue.

Re: odd source for YORK compressors

Heavy trucks like tractor/trailers also came with yorks. I got a 10 cfm one in great shape from a yard for nothing. When they swap engines they usually throw away the a/c stuff.

It will never be finished unless it burns up in the woods.

Re: odd source for YORK compressors

why not the yorks off the xj cherokees. they are sideways and have brackets, pulleys that will fit most cj motors(real motors 304&258 )

Re: odd source for YORK compressors

ive never seen an XJ with a york

are you sure you dont mean SJ (fullsize) Camo?

fullsized wags and cherokees and J trucks are the best sources ive foudn for them, Ive gotten several and they have all been the 10.3 cube ones.
