Anti-spam e-mail address?

Here is the deal. I have been using the company's E-mail address (my former worksite), but that is ending at the end of this month. Somehow I have gotten onto someone's SPAM list, and routinely get about 10 per day. They are annoying, and I hit "block sender" and delete them, but they keep coming.

My question, is there a way to setup an E-mail address to people cannot just SPAM me all the time?

At one point I was going to get nasty and E-mail the spammers a virus or something, but the e-mail addresses they give just get kicked back to me.

Any help or words of wisdom?

Re: Anti-spam e-mail address?

If you spend any time at all on the web and using your email, sooner or later the spam catches up with you. And unfortunately every antispam program I've seen also catches some mass emails I want from lists and services. Granted, you can tell it to let them thru, but its cumbersome. And most spammers now know not to send mass emails, they send them out in bursts that the filters can't catch. The only solution I've found is changing email addresses regularly, and I'm not about to do that.

Re: Anti-spam e-mail address?

I'm wondering about here...
For two years I didn't get any spam in the account I use for here.
Now, (since the 'big changes' around here...) I'm suddenly getting spam...
I'm not saying it's from here, but This is the only place I use this particular email address, and I'm careful about not signing up for anything...

Just wondering...

Re: Anti-spam e-mail address?

There are a few ways to do it. If you post your e-mail address, do it like this:
[email protected]
and just let people know to remove the nospam. portion of the address.

You can also use "public" and "private" e-mail addresses. If I know I'm putting my e-mail address down for some sort of subscription, I use my public address which is from HotMail.

Spammers get your addresses from a bunch of methods.

1.) You sign up for something. This is called "opt-in".
2.) You sign up for something and the company sells your name. This is called "opt-out".
3.) Trolling. This is when spammers use a special filter to poll public forums, like this one, for combinations of characters that resemble an e-mail address, such as [email protected]. Another form of "opt-out" mail.

When you get spam, DO NOT REQUEST THAT YOUR NAME BE TAKEN OFF THE LIST! A company may have many lists. You ask to be removed from list A, they say OK and add you to list B.

As far as spam filters go, it's pretty simple. Set the filter up so that when it encounters spam it moves it directly to your trash folder without prompting you. Out of sight, out of mind. I have never seen an e-mail program that doesn't allow you an "exclude" list. If you find that your filter is moving your daily joke to the trash, simply add it to the exclude list.

Do a Google search for spam, and you will find many resources to combat it. Unfortunatly, it cannot be completly avoided.

Re: Anti-spam e-mail address?

Some of the time if they are using a known ISP, you can forward it to their spam dept. For instance, you get email from [email protected], forward it to [email protected] and tell them it was unsolicited spam. It doesn't always work, but it puts the spaminators in hot water with their ISP. I think all ISPs have a abuse mailbox.

Re: Anti-spam e-mail address?

All of the spam I get isn't even addressed to me. It comes to [email protected] or something like that. Undisclosed recipients is another one. Is there anyway that I can leave it on the server and let my isp deal with it?

Re: Anti-spam e-mail address?

What quite a few folks do, including me, is to set up a "spam trap" address with a free service like hotmail.
Only my friends get my primary email address, and every site or public place gets my hotmail address. I very infrequently have to use this address, like when I forget a password, and always laugh when I see the dozens of spam e-mails in that address

Re: Anti-spam e-mail address?

you think thats bad, I setup a hotmail account for my wife. She checks it about once every other week. The only browsing she does is cooking, martha stuart crap and kids sites (disney, nickjr) There are literly 100's of emails from porn sites every week. I had to actually set it up so that now she only receives mail from people in her address book. (and no she doesn't do the porn thing when i'm not there. she doesn't have access to the computer)
