33x10.5x15 BFG MT Do I need offseted rims ?

My friend wants to put 33x10.5x15 BFG MT on his 89 YJ.
He wants to keep those Jeep alloys rims which I think are 15x7.

Will that work or does he need offsetted rims ?

Thanks for you help.

Re: 33x10.5x15 BFG MT Do I need offseted rims ?

When I went from factory tires to a set of 30X9.5s I got some pretty good rubbing. Nothing I couldn't handle, just had to think about hard turns. But my wheels were only 6in wide. Your friend will probably get some rubbing on the springs. Sometimes you can get wheel spacers that will widen your stance, he may think of doing that.

I have an 89 YJ with stock rims (15x7) with 31 x 10.50's and they rub the springs at full steering lock. I just adjusted the steering stops out to stop the wheel before it hit the springs. Works fine.

Re: 33x10.5x15 BFG MT Do I need offseted rims ?

I've got the 33x10.5's on my '88 Sahara, with 2.5" Rancho and 1" shackle with no offset (stock 15x7 wheels). I do get a little rubbing in the front, when turning sharp, but nothing that really bothers me. I just don't turn as sharp, but I still feel I have a good turning radius. Someday I may even adjust my steering stops to prevent all rubbing...
