my buddy\'s TJ was hit yesterday - Update!(pics)

Hey All,

mudman99tj was on his way to work when somebody decided to turn in front of him.. He's ok but the Jeep will be down for a while. Its a shame, The jeep did great this past weekend on our club trip... Hopefully they won't total it and it will be back on the road soon.....

To our surprise, the bumper I built for him is still ok

Is he gonna rebuild? Hope the frame is not bent, sometimes the side impacts are not friendly to the frame.

Im no crash impact expert, but that looks like quite a blow.
With that contrl arm squished like that, Pro Comp used round control arms to strengthen the part, and those things looked like a pretzel.. I would be surprised if the frame didnt get a little bent. Now its a dedicated trail vehicle.
Best of luck!

You should hope for your friend that they do total it, this way he can go out and buy a new Jeep with the check, and buy back the totald jeep for parts for probably under a grand.

Whew! From the looks of those pics, if I'm your friend, I would have the Jeep examined very thoroughly. It looks like some serious structural damage may have been suffered. If this is the case, I would push for it to be totalled. Then, if he wanted to make it a dedicated trail rig, he could buy it back and rebuild it. That's what my grandfather did with his F150. This is all assuming that the judgement of fault sided with him.

Re: my buddy\'s TJ was hit yesterday (pics)

I too was involved in an accident yesterday, not nearly as bad though. I had been in the left lane on I-35 for a couple of miles so that I could make a left lane exit to get onto I-70. There was a line of cars in front of me and at the head of the line was somebody driving way to slowly. The people behind him/her kept applying their brakes. While I am trying to avoid rear-ending the guy in front of me, a guy that passed me on the right tried to cut into my lane of traffic. When I saw him start to move over, I tried to avoid him by slowing and moving to the left. It was too late, he got me.

I got off of the highway to trade insurance information and his first statement was, "I had the right of way, my turn signal was on." I don't believe that gives the right of way in Missouri, but even so, when he hit me, it left tire marks from my right front tire on his left rear door. Now, how did he think I was going to see his turn signal?

Just scuffed the white letters on my front tire and left paint from his rear fender on my side nerf bars. He didn't come out as well.

Sorry to hear about mudman99tj's accident. It looks like his Jeep is going to be in the body shop for at least a few says. Glad to hear he's not hurt.

I've replaced so many parts that my old Jeep has become my new Jeep.

Re: my buddy\'s TJ was hit yesterday (pics)

my brother was recently involved in an accident with his 1993 Cherokee. he was sitting at a stoplight when a kid in his dads brand new 3/4ton Dodge ram ran into the back of him at about 30mph. they wanted to total the vehicle and give him $5200. he settled the vehicle part (his will get alot more $$$ for his and the other passengers injuries) by accepting $5000 and getting to keep the vehicle. tell him not to let the insurance companies bully him around. intially, my brother posed to them $6000 and he keeps the vehicle. they should have accepted, since the rental car bill was over $1500. also, i would suggest that he get HIS vehicle back from the towing impound and lock it in his (or someones elses) garage. if a claim adjuster wants to see it, make them come and look at it. both the insurance company and the lot that my brothers cherokee was towed to acted really strange about us getting the vehicle back from them in the wrecked condition. it gave us the impression that they thought they owned the cherokee. well, my brother was the victim, he holds the title, and we told them we were taking OUR vehicle. they couldn't do anything about it. hopefully, it will work out for the best. i know a couple of rebuilders (buy totaled cars and fix them). they can rebuild a car so that it specs closer to factory dimensions than one that rolls off the assembly line brand new. amazing things can be done with a frame machine and someone that knows how to use it... matt

Hey, Taz, here's something that might be of use to you. Several years ago I was driving down a four lane road when a person stopped in the left lane a few cars behind a car turning left decided she didn't want to wait and changed lanes in front of me. I hit her right rear with my left front. She was cited for an illegal lane change and was responsible for the damages.

Yep Will,

One moving violation for improper lane change a second for passing on the right. And still he thought I was at fault.
