OT Anybody else getting laid off today?

Another day of watching managers walk through the cubicles and tap people on the shoulder. I still have my job, luckily, but I'm watching some good guys being escorted out the door. Just depressing.....hope everyone else is having a better day. When's all this recession crap going to end!
sorry, had to vent.

Damn that suck's, I got laid off last year in june, and got a job within 3 weeks, fortunetly it was just before the 9/11 incident and the holidays so I was fortunate I suppose to have a job to buy a few gifts for my familly. I did take a steep pay cut though of about 8K per year. Good luck to you

A fellow Mainer with Jeeps and Chevys. Maine is a very comfortable state. Quiet and usually pretty slow paced. However, it is tough to find a good job. I live in Deer Isle, which is pretty far from everything. Took me a while to find a good job, and I'm trying my best to hang onto it. Don't think I could find another one around here in the IT field. Hope all goes well for you.

Re: OT Anybody else getting laid off today?

I hear ya. Last week, four people here had their "positions eliminated". One is a close friend. Worst part is that my company isn't really hurting, it was politics (new GM). I used to take my job for granted, now I'm more cautious. Hope you can hang in there.

Re: OT Anybody else getting laid off today?

It sounds like things are the same all over. We got a new president a while ago, and he is turning everything upside down. They have made some big changes in the shop, and now that he is done there I am sure that he is going to start looking at engineering. I shake in my shoes every time I see the guy. They didn't fire anybody yet, but they cut their pay and changed their job description so they will quit. And they do all of this with no advance notice. I could come in tomorrow and not have a job. If they have a business plan that included someone's termination or a change in pay, it sure doesn't seem right to not warn people. The guys in the shop lost lead positions with no explanation as to why. If someone isn't doing their job the way they should, I think they are at least owed an explanation or warning or something before they get docked or fired. With the sluggish job market I would hate to be out of a job.

Where did you work? I live in NH and am an unemployed network engineer. I've been laid off since October and haven't found any IT related jobs. It sucks.

I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five?

Bad joke... Bad bad joke...

It is crap to see people being laid off... roughly 1/2 half the company I work for was let go in the past 12 months.
