Well, what year is it?
Springs?

If the springs have sagged, and you have no lift on 31's, you might end up rubbing over speed bumps.

Re: Pic of Rubbing 31\'s

Lol....
31's on a stock 90 wrangler is pretty good.
my springs we're so sagged I could barely fit 30's....but that changed after the lift

Its probably rubbing over speedbumps, running over lowered toyota pickups, and flying over curbs for fun..

Re: Pic of Rubbing 31\'s

I have a 95 and my 30s would almost hit with the trac bars and sway bars attached so I would imagine 31s could hit if you hit a decent size bump. With no rear trac bar and no sway bars my 30s articulate perfectly with my 2" body lift. I would suggest you do a daystar 1" body lift. The body mounts could probably use replacing anyway. The one piece kit has gotten pretty good reviews and its easy to do (12 hour - 45 min) with no mods to any lines, the fan shroud or the shifter. I think a 1" body lift is more advisable than any shackle lift (personal opinion).

Re: Pic of Rubbing 31\'s

Last I hear the rule of thumb for no rubbing tires on a YJ/CJ with no lift or fender trim was 2" over stock. The rule can be thrown out the window depening upon width of the tire, rim and backspacing.

Re: Pic of Rubbing 31\'s

My 30"s are fine with no lift, but they do come really close when flexing. For 31"s you could do lots of things, but my understanding is the best would be 1" body lift. That will not effect steering, while costing much less than suspension kit.

Re: Pic of Rubbing 31\'s

If thats all the rubbing you've got than consider yourself lucky. Here are some shots from below so you can see how the tire has bent the lip of the fender. The side marker lights have cracked, I'll take a pic from the top tomorrow.

"rubbing is off-road" hehehe, let them rub, doesn't do anything but bend the fender and sipe the tire a bit.

Re: Pic of Rubbing 31\'s

You almost sound surprised.
Most people report 31's rubbing the flares just with the body roll from turning a corner.
Trim the flares, install TJ flares, or put in a 1" body lift. No more problem.
