clutch size?? 11/10.5? Long...

How do I tell what size my flywheel is drilled for. I talked to an adv adapter guy, and he said that I can use any one, as long as I get matching pressure plate...
the clutch disc is as follows.
PN 5304679 yr 72-75 t-14,15,18 6&8cyl 10.5"
yr 80-86 t-170, sr4, t4,5 6&8 cyl 10.5"
PN 3184867 yr 72-75 t-14,15,186&8cyl 11"
yr 80-86 t-170, sr4, t4,5 11"

In the 4wd hardware book it says that your flywheel has to be drilled to accept the 11".

the flywheel is supposed to be off a 258,and the numbers are 3236259-A, can I just measure something and it will tell me what I need??

And do I need to get the diaphram style, or the 3 finger style??
10.5 72-81 6&8cly 3finger
10.5 82-86 6cly diaphram
11" 72-75 80-86 6&8 cyl.

I have a 304 with a t176 bellhousing I'm matching a NV4500 to. the t176 has the regular clutch fork, hot a hydro cyl...

cant think of any more info to post.

Edit: geeze, I just looked and there are 3 different release bearings too:72-75 cj 6&8,76-81cj finger style, and 82-86 diaphram.. HELP?

Your flywheel should be already drilled for either size. The one in my 360 was. As far as size, I'm going through this right now, too. I went with a standard 10 1/2" Luk. I had to get mine for a '79, because of the spline count on my T-18 I'm swapping in. A 10 1/2" should be plenty for you.

The flywheel for my 304 was only drilled for the 10.5 clutch. Did you have that 258 flywheel balanced for the 304? If not you can't use it. There was a 304 flywheel discussion here just the other day with lots of info and part numbers.
You can use either the diaphram or 3 finger style clutch. Just make sure you get the throwout bearing that goes with which ever style you pick.

the 304 that I have is nutral balanced, and I understand that the 258 flywheel is nutral too... I read the post, but found no information about my spec flywheel..

The reason that I want to go 11" is that this 304 is built.. It is elusives old one and it is awsome.

Re: clutch size?? 11/10.5? Long...

The 10.5 will work well if you don't do the "dump" or "slip". The power you have will need the 11 if you are going to be in places where you have to go from full stop to hard on it quick. Both will have enough capacity once they are enguaged. Best bet is take the flywheel in and see what will fit. Look for the guy who gets all the tough questions and challenge him fix you up! It doesn't have to be a Jeep part to be the best combo. If you don't get good answers bring it to the Hobby Shop and we will get it right.
BTW-I sold you the flywheel. I still have connections at AAP. Also have a full set of their old catalogs.
