Rear shocks up through the tub?

I've been toying with the idea of running some 5012's right up through the rear tub. Anyone done this? I was maybe going to use some Ford shock towers like I did up front. If I just cut a square out of the floor of the tub, then ran the shock and shock tower up through it, and then welded a box around it, I'd be alright, right? Maybe would need to reinforce it somehow. How would I do this?

I can't help you on how to actually do it but I have seen pictures of it done, so yes it is possible. What about cantilever?

Re: Rear shocks up through the tub?

Jamgood-
Search back a month or so (I think it was rear shock mount alternatives), I had replied to this and put up a picture of how my CJ5 was done thru the tub. I ended up going to a cantilevered set-up this time and like it as well. I had the 9012's up to a cross bar on the cage, and had to have some faitly large holes in the floor to allow the shocks to move with the axle. They worked well and I didn't loose to much space since they were pretty close to the sides of the tub. I did the CJ7 to try the cant. setup, and think I will stay with it though.

Re: Rear shocks up through the tub?

I'll search for some of your pics. I've thought about doing a canitlever setup, but heard they don't preform as well on the street. Is there really any benifit either way? Both would work equally well. One just sits a little higher.
