Well, it is the beginning of a new year and I thought I would post about what I have done to my 1985 CJ7!
I started with a bare frame and totally reconditioned it, 302 Ford with a mild cam and 57cc heads bored 30 over stock, Electric cooling fans, 3 core rad, Hyd clutch linkage, 11" clutch, T18A, Dana 20 twin stick shifters, CV front driveshaft, 1976 Scout D44's (3.55:1) front rewelded for more caster, Front shackle reversal and moved springs outside the frame, Extra long shocks (custom rear shock mount), 2.5" OEM lift, 5.5" SOA, 2" body lift, Fiberglass tub, Fiberglass one piece front end and windshield frame, Aftermarket heater, Prebent SS brake lines, 1992 YJ soft top and hardware, YJ upper doors, CJ7 lower doors, 35" BFG AT's on aluminium rims...

Re: What Do You Have?

Um..
Bought my Jeep.
3.0" Sus-Lift.
1.5" Body lift.
1.0" Shackles.
33/9.5" BFG A/T's. Steel Rims.
Motorcraft 2100.
Fixed various bulbs.
Got recovery gear inc. hi-lift.
Got a welder.
Was Eye'ing my bumpers before I blew a core plug, wasted $20 on coolant, bought another jug ($20) found there's no oil in the engine at all. ($25)
Got the credit card bill and was brought to a grinding halt.
But hey, there's always next pay-check.
Rent... Jeep stuff... Rent... Jeep stuff... rent... jeep stuff...

Re: What Do You Have?

Well in this last year I rebuilt my transmission, got a new windshield, did my own paint job, got new wheels and am ordering my tires tomorrow (swamps), put in a tac, made a bumper, converted my t-case so it could do two wheel drive low range (one of my best mods so far), put in a new crossmember/skidplate, re-enforced my role cage, got new mufflers, put in a gauge cluster, and thats about all I can think of at the moment. I didnt do a whole lot in the performance/strength category but its definetly a better rig than when I started. Im pretty sure the new tires are going to put me in a few new places and Im pretty excited about that. Looking forward to a new year of wheeling.

Re: What Do You Have?

Sounds nice Rodney!

I have added some new custom rock and tree body work. It is so "custom" that I can no longer get a windshield or doors on it because the hinges, cowl and sides are so mangled. I have a decent soft top for it, but it doesn't do much good without a windshield. Makes for some cold wheeling in IL this winter!

Seriously though, the Heep will soon be getting an new injected powerplant. Just not shure if it will be TBI 350 or a diesel.

Re: What Do You Have?

I have an 89 YJ that I sensibly modified for occasional off roading.

Re: What Do You Have?

Here's what I did last year
-Bought the Jeep
-Fixed the PO's royal mess on the brake system
-"reconditioned" engine compartment (tore everything down and painted)
-installed howell TBI
-bedliner in tub (cheap duplicolor stuff that's now pealing off)
-digital guages
-installed electric fans
-got new tires (33" wild country's)
-installed lots of ground cables
-changed head gasket and valve seals/ground valves.
-changed rear main seal - twice
-replaced exhaust from cat back
-installed off-road lights on front bumper
-took it to Tellico and broke the rear end (currently building a Dana 44 to swap in)

All that set me back about $7000 (enough for one year )

Plans for 2002:
-Dana 44 rear (almost done rebuilding it)
-New 4" lift (probably BDS)
-Body work and paint (trying to decide what color - maybe yellow and black)
-light bar
-big alternator
-soft top before winter (I hate the hard top)
-Tranny rebuild
-Winch
-new windshield
-power steering

Re: What Do You Have?

well let's put it this way
i bought the jeep with different intentions than what i have for it now. read my profile for the major mods and add many more misc items. the list is huge and continues to grow- will NEVER end!

my general mod guidelines are this:
1. NO CHROME
2. bigger is better
3. never wash it
4. wheel it more than wrench it
5. when it breaks, rebuild stronger
