4.0 computer ?\'s

OK so I have a MPI unit coming for the CJ. I know there has been lots of talk on the board before about these conversions, but my search went empty. What computer do you use with an auto trany that is not computer controled. Do you use the one from an auto or for a manual. Also, If the MPI unit is a 2001, will any '97 and up computer work? Any links to this info would be great.

My girlfriend said if I spent one more dime on my Jeep she would leave. Man I'm going to miss her!

If you got the MPI as a kit it should have come with it!!

But when I did my swap I used the one that came with the 4.0 out of a 93 Grand

No, it isn't a kit, but all I need left to get is the computer.

'dorfs' is the one to answer this one...
He visits here fairly regularly.
He's said it is better to get an auto's computer because it can be used/fooled for idle sucking add ons like an OBA compressor, etc.
Apparently the 1997+ units involve a lot of gauges and stuff which can greatly increase your difficulty/learning curve.
Many have suggested you might want to use a 1991-1995 computer which the MPI kit is based on and which does not involve so many dash/gauge configuraton problems.
These newer swaps are far less documented.
Good luck, and do a write up when you finish, will ya?
