Blue smoke out the rear.

Over the weekend I was going up a REAL steep mountain. About half way up I stalled. I sat there for a minute, just laughing about how ludicrously steep this was, then I put it in nuetral, and rolled it the 50 or so feet down the mountain. When I got to the bottom, I started it(it started right up, no hesitation) but it was shooting blue smoke out the rear for about 1 or 2 minutes.. I would assume this was oil spilling into the carb from the air filter housing. does this necessarly mean I have blow-by?
I better not, because its a new engine. Everything seems to run really fine.. Any ideas? I havent seen that much blue smoke before, but this was the first time I have taken the new engine up a steep hill and stalled.

thanks!

Re: Blue smoke out the rear.

My guess... the PVC line dumped into the air cleaner and that combined with the unburnt fuel caused a nice pollutant cloud to form behind the Jeep as it started.

Re: Blue smoke out the rear.

I'm gonna agree with LEVE. Has it ever happened before, or happened since?

Re: Blue smoke out the rear.

I know some guys with Samurais, and when their clutches are burning out it send out blue green smoke.... i dont know if thats it... but if it was the clutch burning you would probably recognise the smell. Just another possibility that might help. hahaha

Re: Blue smoke out the rear.

My buddys sami used ot do this for an hour or so after offroading steep angles, I think from oil on top of the head ( under the valve cover) sloshing around the stems of the valves and leaking past the valve seals.
my buddys truck had 90K miles on it, but never smoked before the steep hills, and it wasnt the clutch burning, I know that smell in a sami, I did that in another buddys sami trying to climb the hill that made the other one smoke!

Re: Blue smoke out the rear.

No, it hasnt happened since, and it has not happened before. Even before I got this new engine put in, I dont remember it happening. Its not a problem I dont think, its not running bad(hehe, its as good as any other carter carb'ed engine...). So best thoughts and opinions are: not to worry?

Thanks again!

Re: Blue smoke out the rear.

I'll go with the valve seal thingie ... what about through the bottom? Wouldn't the same thing happen if the thing konked out on him with the rear cylinder piston rings somewhat submerged in oil ..long enough for some to migrate through to the cylinder (but not long enough to hydro-lock it)? This would probably be accompanied with some pinging for a while after restarting.
