liljeepdude02-

Before you can pick a motor to put in your jeep you should stop and decide just what you plan on doing with the jeep when you complete the project. For example, are you going to be slopping through muddy trails, gently driving on top of snow covered roads, hard core rock crawling, or just going out to your favorite fishing hole on a poorly maintained road? It is generally not practical to set up one jeep to be best at everything and some improvements are more expensive than others.

Give that some thought.

Good Luck!

Re: what would you recoment the most 4 a motar

Dude it's a lot more than a motor you are putting into your rig, especially if you are building up the willys or any jeep for that matter (unless it's a waggy or j truck) If it's the willys i will garuentee you will need new axles, engine tranny and t-case. If you want to stay jeep specific, i'd say find a wagoneer or full sized cherokee and swap in the motor (they came with 258 I-6's, 304, 360, and 401 v-8's), tanny either a t-150 (3 speed, not that great, but alright), t18(great garranny low 4 speed), t-176 (later modle hd 4 speed), tf727 (pretty heavy dut 3 speed auto), th400 (chevy auto behind some amc engines), the t-case which will either be a d20 (behind the t150, t18, and some th 400's), q-tec (behind most th400's, has an off set out put and not all have low range, alright but not the greatest), or d300 (behind the t-176 and maybe the 727, maybe the np208 came into the picture during these waggys i'm not sure), and then the axles (most likely d44's (should be just right for 35's-36's on mud trails) as long as they came from a '76 or later waggy). Also use other parts from the waggy like the master cylinder, steering box, seats, heater parts, ect. Now with this info do sh!t loads of research and you should be ready to build up the jeep by the time you are 16.
