mechanical fuel pump by--pass, anyone done it?

The only problem I think that I may have with the hydraulic winch is that my carb may not handle being winched at extreme angles. I have a carter carb that is rebuilt with 0 kms on it. Any way I was wondering if anyone has done a mechanical fual pump by-pass, with an electric fuel pump, if so what parts do you need and how did you rig it up. I have a poly gas tank so cutting a new hole can be arranged. I would like to use the mechanical pump and have the electric on a toggle switch for the extreme angles and such.is this possible? Thanks for your time

Most mechanical fuel pumps can have gas pumped right through them with little or no restriction.

you wont have any problem running your mechanical fuel pump at an angle its just a vacum pump so it can pump on its side or upside down the main problem is with the float in the carb it needs to be the thing that stays level so you dont starve or flood out ... dave

I was hoping that the electric pump would produce enough psi to get past the floats, what do you think?

we used adjustable fuel pressure in a race car one time, I wonder if I got a valve and used that if that would work.

First off .........this will not help the problem you are trying to solve at all. So you will have to deal with off camber carter problems as long as you run one.

NEXT.........

I have the setup you are asking about. I put an inline electric ahead of the mech. one. It is mounted on the fenderwell and has a manuall T valve with a length of hose attached to it. This is so I can be a mobile gas station if I need to be. I put the elect. pump on mainly so that if my mech. one died (diaphram failure) I could pop the rubber hose off, attach it to the carb line and be off in no time at all. The "mobile gas station" was just a bonus while I was putting this together.
