Recovering For a tail stand?

So i've seen pics of people roll thier jeeps back words so that are just suported by the rear of the tub or tire carrier. So how do you recover from them? There's some hills around here where that's a risk. So what do you do? I've always wondered.

Re: Recovering For a tail stand?

Just reach down and pull the hatch release lever (Don't xj's have those)...Anyway, the door will pop open pushing you back on your wheels. Simple LOL

Re: Recovering For a tail stand?

When I had this problem in the CJ5 I was trying to get it into to reverse, then blip the throttle to get the front down, I wasn't fast enough, and rolled it backwards many times.

Re: Recovering For a tail stand?

Its easy enough to stand your jeep on its tail with lockers, gearing and decent traction. The first time I took my Jeep out a couple years ago after installing the lockers and 4:1 we went out to Chokecherry, took Jaffer with me, his Jeep wasn't mobile yet. Tried to go up a 8 ft. vertical ledge, ended up with the Jeep on its tail and a boulder wedged in the left rear wheel well (my 11 year old son was spotting). Anyway, John unhooked his seatbelt and proceeded to fall out, so seeing that I was a little more careful. We surveyed the situation, unwedged the boulder, and since my front tires were in contact with the rock right at the lip, I just put it in reverse and backed out of it. My first experience with lockers and gears, I was truly amazed! Since then I've put it on the rear tire and crossmember a lot, the rear crossmember is smashed in on the left side, its really no big deal.

No, XJ's don't have that lever. I sure wish mine did though.

Re: Recovering For a tail stand?

Step 1)Flail your arms and legs until it begins to roll backwards..

Step 2)Look at the person next to you, laugh, and wait for it to finish rolling.
3 things can happen.

1)Lands on the wheels. Start her up and drive off.
2)Lands on the roof. Get out, roll her over, and drive off.
3)Lands back on the tail. Repeat steps 1-2 until you get outcome 1 or 2.
