Fuel ingection for a 258

A friend of mine has a 258 in a (i think) 85 cj. Any way he wants to get rid of the carb. No its not a carter bbd, been there, got rid of that already. Anyway this is what we have. His cj and a 87 cherokee with the 4.0. My questions are will the intake manifold bolt up to the 258 head or do we have to use the 4.0 head. Is there any websites out there for the 4.0 fuel ingection on a 258. I thought i read on here that someone else did it. Thanks for any info.

Can someone please bring me a hammer my 33's just ate my fender again. Damn i need more lift.

Re: Fuel ingection for a 258

The short answer is yes. The parts will fit together but the '87 uses a different 4.0 than the swap that is usually talked about on here. The earlier 4.0 is runs about the same at the 4.2 but with a "Renix" injection system. The head design is just as bad as the 4.2 and the injection will give little or no performance boosts, just plain injection. The later 4.0 is the HO version with the redesigned head and the MPI system. If you want the tires to spin, source the parts for the later system. If you just want to do away with the carb and are otherwise happy with the 4.2, do the swap you have planned. I'm sure you can find a write-up somewhere but most on here are dealing with the HO 4.0.

'88 Sahara, 4.2 that runs thanx to every Cheap trick on this board. The rest is getting there!
