new Alternator ?

Ok so some say get a new Alternator others say it is ok to get just the regulator. Well I am thinking to just get the whole thing BUT...... what is the amp that it puts out because some places I called asked for the 66 or ?78? amp alternator. BTW it is a 89 yj 2.5 NO a/c

Re: new Alternator ?

I may have led you wrong on a earlier post. I guess what I meant to say is be sure that your diodes are good in your old alternator before you change the voltage regulator. It would be a bummer to replace your voltage regulator with a new one and find out it does the same thing.

The price of rebuilt Delco alternators has dropped so much in recent years it is almost cost effective to just replace it. Plus you get a warrenty.

Usually your Jeep will have the smaller output alternator if it dosn't have a/c. Both should fit. If the larger output alternator is about the same price, get the bigger alternator. It will work just fine. It may be beneficial to carry your old one in the parts store to make sure it is clocked the same.
