Relocating the temp sending unit

I got the clifford valve cover on the other day and in the process the temp sending unit wouldn't go on. So I had to grind a little off of the valve cover to get a piece of galvinized pipe to screw into the head and I screwed the sending unit on top of that. The only problem is that now the temp reads 120 at the most. The piece of pipe is probably 3 inches long and I'm guessing that the water isn't circulating up to the sending unit. Is there someplace else I can put the sending unit? If not I'll have to grind more of the valve cover and pray I don't go through. Oh, the reason I used the pipe is that it was smaller than the head of the sending unit, not by much but I didn't want to grind too much off.

Re: Relocating the temp sending unit

I would go for the intake manifold. I installed an aftermarket gauge tee'd off the CTS port. I used it to verify my factory temp gauge. It was pretty accurate at that location. I just installed an OMIX aftermarket valve cover with no problems...sorry to hear the Clifford didn't fit equally as well.
