Drilling the body, can i drill here?

ok so i'm making my rocker skids and all is going well and i was just about to put a hole in them about every 5" when i realized that from about the jeep logo forward and the seat belt back that it's not just 1/8" think metal but a "pocket". Can i just drill a hole in that and use a long bolt? Or is that not a good area to drill through? I don't think anything important is in that compartment? Some one has to know if it's safe to drill it or not.

if behind the seatbelt is the same as on a CJ, then you don't want to drill through that 'pocket'.. it is a channel and you would end up squishing it as you tried to torque your bolt down.

Only drill where you can put a short bolt directly on the inside. There will be a couple places you can't use to mount the rocker guards, just scope it out before you start drilling. I've seen several rocker guards on rigs where the owner didn't do that first and there are holes with no bolt, doesn't look to cool.

If you drill through the pocket in the front there are wires running in it! Also on the TJ at the very front of the rocker guard you could get a bolt in, but it is a pain in the a$$. Also take a look at the floor pans on the TJ if you are using 4"x4" angle you will have to trim it around a portion of the floor pan so it will mount flush. Most of your work will be on the underside to get it bolted, and you cant bolt it full length there either.
