OK Jeff, I\'ll start. CTM info

From what i remember, you run Warn alloy axles with CTM joints. I think i remember reading the axles use full circle clips, which helps out alot. I already have alot of $ in my d44, and don't even come close to the level of 4wheel'n you do. What do you think, will a built d44 survive with 40" tires and a Chevy v8 in the mud and sand. Sorry about butting on your earlier post with questions about CTM's.

will the CTM joints just mangle stock D44 shafts? instead of snapping?

I think you have to use aftermarket shafts as the CTM joints use full circle clips, or have your stock shafts machined to use the full circle clips

Re: OK Jeff, I\'ll start. CTM info

I run the Warn High strength axle shafts.
Jack has not had any shaft failures with the Warns, but he has pictures of a couple of failures with Mosers. Because Warn makes their own shafts, they can roll the splines then heat treat everything at once. A company like Moser has the shafts made for them, then they cut and spline as needed, which does not affectively treat the entire shaft as thoroughly, (or so I am told).
In any case, the thing that I know for sure, is that the Warns have held up for me without failure. Drivetrain Direct sells them(complete sets of long and short side inners and outers) with a no questions asked lifetime warranty, for $549, no tax, and free shipping(the even come with new spicer joints, that you can give to your friends, cause you wont need them).
The Joints come with a lifetime warranty, and will be about $300 for a set. They come with their own full circle clips.
They would be a waste on stock axle shafts.
The joints and shafts will easily handle the 40" tires, but you will be putting that same load on the ring and pinion, and the locker. So far my ARB is holding up well. I have grenaded a Warn locking hub assembly, so that is at least some excample of the loads being generated.
I would suggest a full carrier locker assembly like a Detroit, ARB, or OX(if it turns out to be as strong as supposed to be).

Re: OK Jeff, I\'ll start. CTM info

thats no sweat, I had read about doing that to my stockshafts anyway.

Im just curious what aftermarket shafts for a dana 44 cost, and will the stronger Ujoints make the most likely expensive shafts the weak link, or will it be the hub?

IM pretty cheap

OZ,
I can really only tell you what I know for sure.
You would be the test dummy, using anything else.
I do know that Moser high strength shafts have failed repeatedly, so I can only imagine what stock shafts would do.
I did explode a Warn premium locking hub this last weekend. But as you know, I use the Warn High Strength axle shafts and stubs.

Jeff, have you had a ring or pinion gear let go?

Re: OK Jeff, I\'ll start. CTM info

Ive had 2 D30 R&P failures but nothing on the D44. The U joints would always let go in the past, and I had a freind with a Differential shop completely go through my D44 before the CalRocs competition, when the CTMs were installed.
