Ford 4.0 swap for my CJ?
Well, I am able to get the CJ project going again, but on a smaller scale. I am looking to make my '74 CJ-5 a capable desert jeep without dropping big dollars.
I want to add power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and fuel injection. I think I would like to keep the axles (Dana 30/44).
I know prevailing wisdom here is to go with a 5.0 V-8, but then I have to beef up everything else. I have a line on a 97 F-150 with a 4.0 V-6 and 4WD. I am thinking that the V-6 might be a decent way to go, since I won't be a hard core rock crawler, the horsepower won't be too much of an issue.
I have an NP435 that I want to put in the CJ, I think that the V-6 will bolt up to that, but the F-150 has a 5 speed in it (a ZF?).
So my questions:
What are folks thought on the Ford 4.0 V-6?
Can I use the Ford short block motor mounts?
Is that tranny a ZF and would that work in a CJ?
Has anyone done this, or would it be just as easy to go with the 5.0?
