MC2100 Questions

My 86CJ7 258 is not running very good. I need to get it running quickly but can't afford a fuel injection kit right now. I have a few concerns/questions about a MC2100 swap.

1 - All of the vacuum lines and crap on my existing motor are overwhelming. How much of them go away with this new carb? What about the computer that is on the jeep now?

2 - Can I purchase a rebuilt carb from Checker, Autozone, etc? Is so off of what year, make, model, engine do I ask for?

3 – Are there detailed instructions on line somewhere?

4 – Anything else I should worry about?

Re: MC2100 Questions

Oh ya, so the newbie at the carb swap gets all the questions. well then.

I got my Carb REbuilt by Ford from my local NAPA. They took my Carter as a core (pleaded ignorance)
It was about $200 CDN and I got $50 odd back for the core.

I asked for a Carb for the 1981 CJ7 with the AMC304.
If they tell you the 81 didn't come with a 304, modify the year (down about 4 or 5) until they give you it.

You need adapters from Summit (or equivalant.) The swap is very stright forward.
I would suggest going manual choke, it's not difficult, but works great in subzero enviroments.
As for hoses and such, mine weren't there.

The ones that were there.. Vacc Advance and PCV, plugged stright into the MC2100.

While your at the auto-place, get a new air-filter housing, and a new fuel filter. The stock ones will most likely not fit.

That's all.
Then just follow the writeup supplied by Timnb

Re: MC2100 Questions

OK, I am going to do this. Can I get the adapter plate from any local parts store instead of ordering it from Summit?

Re: MC2100 Questions

I got a Motorcraft 2150 off of a 85 Ranger 2.8L. The carb has 1.08 stamped on the side of it. Since it came off of a smaller engine will I need to change the Jets?
