Attn CJDave and JEEPN twinstick 205

I am going to pull my 205 to try and fix the adapter (I can heat it properly and get it cleaner and weld at better angles with it off). While I had it out it seems only logical to go ahead and twinstick it. I was wondering what if anything I needed to do to get 2 lo and front wheel drive. Do I have to remove a part or grind on the shift rods? Also I have a pretty good idea how to do my shifters but I would be intrested in seeing pictures anyone who has done this.

Thanks
-Steve

I don't think that front wheel drive only can be achieved on the 205. The 205 shifts a bit differently than the D20's. I don't know this for sure, but I am pretty sure that with the twin stick you options are 2hi, 2lo, neutral, 4hi, 4lo. One of the shift rods controls hi/lo and the other controls 4/2wd. I would like it very much if I am wrong, because if I am I will twin stick the old 77' chevy. I am going to anyway, just to have the low range to split gears for towing, but the front wheel drive only option would be cool.

So that's obtainable with no shift rail mods?

I am not sure if there is a lockout pill that needs to be removed. I am sure that one of the other guys like CJDave or Leve or Jeepn would know. It sounds like the tcase is already out, pull the linkage off and see what positions you can get on the shift rods. I would have already twin sticked the old chev, but I never seem to have the time.

Re: Attn CJDave and JEEPN twinstick 205

I'm lucky to be able to get online, as I'm staying with my brother in law for a little while before heading to MA and NH. We have moved out of the house in Winter Harbor (wasn't that a PITA!), and haven't moved into the house in Waldoboro yet, hopefully this weekend. I may not have internet access for a few weeks though. Little_W may be able to keep people updated, or he'll know where I am if people need to get in touch with me for some reason.

The answer is yes, you can twin stick it without any serious mods, like grinding the shift rails. Please do a search, I posted pics of mine and of CJDave's setups. I used two NP205 shifters and made my own linkage, and CJDave made his own shifter out of another SM465 shifter as he couldn't find a second stick. There is no problem getting front wheel drive low range, and the only thing I could see grinding the shift rails did was allow you to get into high/low range at the same time, which is a no-no. To shift though, I have to shift 3 times, from rear high to neutral, then front high to front low, then rear to low. Grinding the rails would allow you to go from high to low without stopping in neutral.

Just to forewarn you, I had my adapter professionally welded, and it cracked on one side of the weld. New ones are $220, but I found a used one with another shifter for $95. Every one I found locally already had the crack across the top of it.

Re: Attn CJDave and JEEPN twinstick 205

I saw this post and I'll add to Jeep"N"'s comments: YES, you CAN twin stick the NP205 with no shift rail mods. That would give you Under and Direct in 2WD or FWD. Because of the way the case is made, you CAN run Front Drive Only if you make the mods to the shift rails. The power to the front and the power to the rear are completely different sliders, so that works out just fine. I was finally able to find a second shifter, and I welded a nice chrome SM465 tranny lever to it in order to get it up where I could reach it easily. I built the special linkage needed for both levers and used the original FWD lever with some offset for the front axle shift rail. I got a boot from Rosser that fits pretty good and reworked the floor plate to take the new boot.
