Closed knuckle d60

In the never ending quest to find 1ton running gear, I found a d60 closed knuckle axle at the junkyard. Can a guy easily cut and reweld open knuckles????
Go for it or leave it alone?

Re: Closed knuckle d60

I would price the knuckles and check the thickness of the tubes. They should be 3.125". If they match you might have found an inexpensive upgrade!

I don't believe there is any difference in the diff internals. But don't know for sure.

Hopefully someone who knows will pipe up.

Re: Closed knuckle d60

i don't think it would be worth it. from everything i have read the closed knuckle 60's used smaller wheel joints, smaller axles, and the tubes were smaller. now i havn't ever had one myself but i have read alot on them and everything says they are not worth it.

it's one ton o' fun!
