installing lockright into D44?

i will be installing LockRight in my rear D44 with 4.56 gears. will i be able to pull the cross shaft without taking the ring gear off? i know in some case you have to grind some teeth a little to get the cross shaft out. i plan on doing it in my carport and will not have access to any powertools. if i have to grind the teeth off, i'll have to arrange with my friend to use his garage and his air tools.
thanks

Re: installing lockright into D44?

dont think it will clear with teh ring gear in place.

but I wouldnt grind it off!

marke the carrier bearing caps for up down and side to side ( reinstall exactly as they come off)
simply remove the carrier, take careful note of the shims on either side, marke the ring gear and carrier ( so you can reinstall in teh same holes in case of runout)

remove ring gear, install lockright, slide it back in, retorqe the caps to spec

now youve not changed your gear setup at all, if you reinstalle the shims that came out.

actually on a dana 44 I tihnk teh shims are pressed on between bearings and carrier so there shouldnt be any loose shims, it should be really simple, just reinstall all parts exactly where they came from , just how they were.
