J-20 rearend

I found a j-20 and want to use the axles for my cj. Before I drive a hour to look at it, can anyone tell me if the rearend is offset for the quadratrac setup? I thought I had read something about them being offset at one time but I can't remember where I read it.

Re: J-20 rearend

Pumpkin could be centered or offset depending on the transfer used. Also J-20 had 8 lug Dana 60 rearends.

Re: J-20 rearend

Do you know what year it was, they stopped putting the Q-track in them in 1980 I believe.

Re: J-20 rearend

79 and older Qtrack will be offset

80 and newer should be centered regardless of tranny used.

79 and older are passenger side diff front axle, 80 and newer is drivers side front axle.

front is 8 lug dana 44, rear is 8 lug Dana 60

almost 66 inches wide front 65 inches rear WIDE axles for a CJ

Re: J-20 rearend

if its older than 80.. then all the rear axles are offset.. so they could use any tranny/transfer setup they wanted... since the wheelbase was so long..

Re: J-20 rearend

there are some very nearly centered JeepGod, they arent common, and ive seen about 3, out of a hundred or so.

usually Th400+dana 20 drivetrain had a centered rear ( maybe not prefectly centereed) but not offset as much as Qtrack.

centered ENOUGH to use with normal Tcases

Re: J-20 rearend

well, I went and looked at the J-20 and the rearend is off-centered it is a 75 could I use these with a d 18 xfer case? The guy also has a 87 full size blazer that I was also looking at. Does anyone know what type of axles these came with? It has a 350 w/auto. I also know a guy that has a couple of scouts but he wants $300 for both axles and it is hard to go with 44's after having the thought of a ff60 in my head (testosterone I guess. My main worry is my d30 in the front holding up to the 401 and 35's. What else do I have for options? I would like my cj just a little wider. Any of your thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: J-20 rearend

of all the j20's i have ever seen i have never seen one with a q-track. they all had a fairly centered dana60. yes it is offset but not as much a a q-track equipped rig. i have also seen an 80's modle and it's d60 was perfecrtly centered. i am also pretty sure i have read that the q-track was never offered in the 3/4 ton versions. i could be wrong be i know i have read that some where.
