Finally, some good press

In one of the recent issues of Auto Week, there's a great 3-page article on ARCA and off-roading in general as a growing, official "motorsport."

Pluses and minuses, I guess.

I'm sick of hearing about ol' whatshisname, the off-road racer recently-turned rock-crawler with the custom rig and lots of money, who always gets the press like he's an "original" or something.

Re: Finally, some good press

Thats good press but if we want to turn our image around what we need to do is some thing like a toys for tots run. This turned the image of bikers around, who had a worse image than we do. So it should work for us.All we need to do is find a charitable organization and adopt it and then do some charitable work for them.

Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

Re: Finally, some good press

for the charity thing, couldnt we(as in the poeple on this board) plan a run and it cost a certain amount to enter and that money goes towards a charity? maybe we could do one on each side of the country since we are from all over the country. Peace

Re: Finally, some good press

I agree with some kind of image thing. I live in Mexico and there is no problem here, however there is no one around who wheels. I would love to come to some kind of charitable function. It would be good for our image. Oh yea I am from the US and do miss the wheeling with others. Most of the time we have to go out alone.

Anyone in South Texas (Brownsville area) out there?

If it were charitable and entertaining.. (eg, JeepGod, H8, and Elusive all roll their rigs.) It might even get telivised.
You could easily get an episode with TLC, maybe Speed-Vision.. and so on.
I don't know what the "Toy's for tots." was, anyone explain?

Re: Finally, some good press

I think all that was, there would be an event, and anyone who wanted to participate had to bring a toy or something.
Would anyone be interested in doing anything like this? I sure would, it would be fun for all of us and we would be helping people out at the same time.

Re: Finally, some good press

I'd recommend the Salvation Army as a top charity. It's across the country and has an extremely low operating cost so more money goes to the needy.
The "Toys for Tots" rides are great, even Maine's Governor rides it so of course the Press covers it.
Whatever is decided invite the elected representative to participate and the Press will follow.

Re: Finally, some good press

I think this sounds like a great idea! I just hope it doesn't fall apart like the t-shirt we tried a few months back.

I really like rice's idea about doing 2 runs on both sides of the country. Maybe 3, and we could put one in the middle of the country. And then have a money fee, canned donations, or toys to get in. What does everyone think of that?

Explain more on the "toys 4 tots" thing.

I'd definetly help with the planing of an event. Only I would have to wait until I get stationed for good in NY.
