?\'s about YJ parts on a CJ

I have been thinking lately (bad deal really). Will a soft top from a YJ fit on a CJ - hardwear and everything? Also how about the power steering box. I can do a little fab work if it is needed. I have been looking on Ebay for parts and Wrangler stuff is way cheaper. Thanks

My girlfriend said if I spent one more dime on my Jeep she would leave. Man I'm going to miss her!

THE SOFT TOP WUILL WORK FINE IF YOU USE ALL THE HARDWARE.oops.. caps lock...
the power steering box will NOT work. the input shaft to a cj box is bigger than the input shaft for a wrangler. they bolt is just fine though. in fact, except for the input shaft, ANY steering box from ANY jeep will interchange.. you can take your 76 waggoneer and swap it with a 2002 wrangler and it will bolt right up. some of the fittings are different through the years, but thats rally easy to fix using a different adapter at the pump.

True the input shaft on the CJ is bigger than the YJ. You can get around that by getting a coupler for a CJ with manual steering which is the same size as the YJ input. The power steering box I used from a Wagoneer had the smaller input shaft and my old manual steering coupler worked fine. If I had used a power steering box from a CJ, I would have had to swap the coupler. There are only two sizes used 3/4" and 13/16", so it has to be one or the other.

Snowtow, what is involved in converting a YJ steering shaft to a CJ. I have a friend with a totaled '92, and I would like to use the steering components of his Jeep...box, pump, and shaft but was told it is impossible.

i wouldnt see at is impossible.. should be able to use the box with the shaft.. and pump.. depending on the engine size.. you might need different brackets to fit the pump to your engine..

Re: ?\'s about YJ parts on a CJ

So if I have manual steering now, the Wrangler box should mount right up? I am slowly collecting all the parts to make power steering. I have the pump and pulley, the brackets (I think), so all I need is the hose and the box w/pitman arm. Where do I measure the input shaft?
