Donor vehicle for lighted rear-view?

Hey all, I saw a pretty cool mod the other day, it was a rear-view with a set of map-lights built into the bottom. Anybody know what junkyard donors I should look for with one of these?

Just go to your local Pick-A-Part and look at the luxury cars, the more plush cars Caddies,Lincolns and cars like that.

Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

A friend of mine has a 97-98 Monte Carlo that has those map lights.
FYI..Some Chrysler cars had an option of a Radar Detector in the rear view also

I got one from a Saab 900, the map light is a Hella one, works great. It also mounts to the steel part of the frame and not the glass.

Re: Donor vehicle for lighted rear-view?

i think i got mine out of a isuzu rodeo or something.....i just walked around the yard til i found one. i have mine in, but not wired yet. i was just too lazy to run the wires yet. i was thinking of hooking it to a little 9v and see how that works, then you won't have the wire running all the way around the wind shield.....good luck

I took one out of my 91 S-10 4door blazer before I traded it in,
perfect size for in a Jeep!

Re: Donor vehicle for lighted rear-view?

I got one from a newer Oldsmobile station wagon and one from a Chevy Corsica (saw several Corsica's & Beretta's with them). These are the ones that mount to the 'button' that's glued onto the windshield glass and they give a slightly wider field of vision.

Re: Donor vehicle for lighted rear-view?

My mom's '98 astro has one, not the best of quality but it would work, i think it also has a compass though i'm not sure if compass "computer" is in the mirror or somewhere else. Another idea is mounting one from your roll bar, i like this idea and might have to see if i can find one for my tj. I would also like a wider mirror than my stock one, maybe my mom won't miss her's.
