KJ newbie - hello all :)

Hi all,

I just bought my first Jeep about two months ago, a Jeep Liberty Limited, Garnet Red with all the trimmings I'm really happy with it.

I *do* want to use it for more than just the trip to work, but I'm a total newbie. Any links that could gimme a start on how to prepare my vehicle for off-roading are hereby solicited.

Also, if anyone has ever heard of a roof rack for a KJ that holds fishing rods, it would be cool to know where I could find one. I've seen a couple, but they don't offer any protection to the reel, and I don't wanna take the reel off.

well, that's my 'hello' I guess I'm gonna go browse the links to trails and stuff in my area, but I'll check in often, and help out where I can (not that I foresee me being a big help or anything) :-/

Re: KJ newbie - hello all :)

Welcome to the Jeep thing. There are lift kits, rock sliders, nerf bars ,skid plates, winch bumpers etc.... available for the KJ. If you plan on taking it off road the very first thing I would do after you get rid of the stock goodyears is to get a lift on it and a tranny skid of some kind.Rocky Road outfitters sells the skid row (not very stout IMHO ) and Rusty's off road sells a skid that protects the exhaust as well as the tranny pan (but costs you about an inch clearance under the exhaust).

As far as fishing rod racks don't think I've ever seen an exterior rack before.Visions of a $50 fly line waving in the wind 90' behind my vehicle probably keep me from looking too hard for something like that.Seems to me though that cabelas offers interior racks and possibly an exterior of some type using suction cups ?? for attachment.Good Luck with the KJ and don't mind some of the yahoos here. They're actually pretty harmless if you just lay real quiet like until they leave

Peace
