16.5 inch wheels

I recently bought a 74. it has 33x12.5" mud kings on 16.5 inch rims right now. i would like to put on different tires because i cannot air down the tires to crawl or they break the bead. the previous owner said that anything smaller then the 16.5s would not fit correctly. i am not looking forward to buying 17 inch rims. just wondering what options i have other then bead locks. thanks joe

Re: 16.5 inch wheels

Do you have the six lug wheels? Are you talking a Wagoneer or J? You should have Dana 44s front and rear, factory (I thought) would be 15". Let me know what model and we should be able to look up what axles (unless you want to crawl under and wipe the grime off of the tag to look).

I hope that helps

Re: 16.5 inch wheels

Sounds like you have a J-20 which probably has 8 lug axles. I'm pretty sure people will pull out the grinder and make 15" wheels fit w/o too much trouble. I'd ask the question on the swb jeep board those guys would know for sure.

Just pop the axles from a Waggie under there!
