amc model 20 VS. dana 44

keeping in mind that the model 20 in question is one off of a wagoneer with the thicker tubes and the one piece axles, is it stronger than the dana 44? I know that the ring gear is large on the 20, but what about the rest of the internals? plusses and minusses of the model 20??

Re: amc model 20 VS. dana 44

they are esentially the same.. if the 20 is a one piece, make sure they are not off set.. but i would go with the.. mmm... cheapest for lockers and what not.. availablity also.. dana 44's are more common.. especially in that size.. or width i should say.. are you cutting them down? that is also a thought.. depending on what you have now.. if you have the 35c thinging.. you might want to consider the ford 8.8 has the same bolt pattern as the yj.. and you can get them with disk brakes.. and decent gears... some even had posi's in them.. they are like in the explorers. and what not.. so they should be all over the boneyards.. would cost you alittle more over the others.. but would be newer... so you wouldnt have to replace the seals and such right off if it was in decent shape.. just me rambling on ...
