1967 327 Starter sources

My starter motor needs rebuilt or replaced and the local guy says
it is going to be a tough one because of lack of parts.

1) do you think that is true
2) what do you suggest I do

I'd hate to see the old jeep quit for lack of a starter.
Maybe I would even be interested in a cheepie engine swap
or some other kind of hairbrained scheme to keep it going
a few more years.

Any suggestions?

Re: 1967 327 Starter sources

Unfortunately, it's true. the 327 starter is tough to find. you might want to try some sources or clubs that deal with early AMC cars, such as Nash/Rambler. I think they had the same engine. Hemmings may have some sources or advertisements of shops that specialize in vintage starters, generators, etc. Specialty Parts in SAn Carlos, CA may be a source. I'm gussing this is not going to be a cheap venture. Swap a chevy 350 or AMC 360 and never worry about parts again. good luck

Re: 1967 327 Starter sources

I have had my starter rebuilt a couple times here locally (Texas) and the shop told me that it is a rare starter but he has parts. I have also checked with a parts store and they say they can get me a new on. They also tell me it shows an Ac Delco fits but I'm not too sure about that. The Prestolite sold for about $200. I hope this helps.
