FSJ Dana 44 Front End

I have a 71 Jeepster and a 64 J-300. I've decided not to do anything with the J-300 except use it for parts. It has a closed knuckle Dana 44 with what look to be 12" drum brakes. Now my questions. I want to put a Dana 44 under the Jeepster. A shop in Denver can narrow the housing ($175). Anyone care to offer pros and cons on using the Dana 44 that I already own as opposed to finding some different Dana 44. What are the major drawbacks with the closed knuckle design? Are parts still available for the 12" Drums? Can the closed Knuckle Dana 44 be converted to Discs at some latter date (and does someone offer a kit)?

Re: FSJ Dana 44 Front End

dont...tho u got it an therfore its cheap. dont use it CUZ of its knuckle design and its drum brakes. try and get urself a d44 from a disc wagoneer. the wags r narrower than the j300 and therefore MIGHT be usable without cutting. get out ur tape measure.
