Wagoneer Info. needed

Today I was offered a 74 Wagonner. It's a 2dr model with a in-line 6cyl engine,
auto tranny and the rear dif. looks like a Dana 44 but it is off-set to the
passenger side like the old CJs. My question is what type of diffs are in this
Wagonner and what is the gear ratio on them?? Also how wide are they???
tks for the info.

Tks for the info Kenny. Also can you install lower gears on these diffs.
without changing the diff. carrier. I want to go to 5.38s if possible.
tks

Re: Wagoneer Info. needed

The lowest you can go is 3.73:1 without changing the carrier. 3.73's work well with 30x9.50R15 to 31x10.50R15 diameter tires. If you run 33x12.50R15's, then 4.10-4.27's work well. When you go lower than 4.88:1, you will sacrifice strength in the gears. Also your Waggie will not be very streetable with the proposed 5.38's.
