Cruise Control

Does anyone have any information on how to troubleshoot the cruise control on a 89 GW?
Also, any info on troubleshooting the electric windows and doorlocks?

Re: Cruise Control

I have an '86 so this is probably a little different. The cruise has two mudules, one electronic one mechanical. The electronic unit sits under the dash (actually mine is flopping over the transmission hump) it connects to the switch on the steering column and is factory plugged into the ignition control wiring. It then passes through the firwall to the mechanical section where it has a small vacuum reservoirs and a mechanical throttle holding assembly. Yours should be a completely electric system if its Fuel Injected. Mine won't work if the clock/accsy fuse is blown so check that. Otherwise, check to see if it is trying to put voltage out to the second unit, if it is it's probably good, then see if something is mechanically wrong with the throttle unit (bad cable/motor diaphragm). The windows are actually not too bad. Everything starts at the driver's door, they're simple switches with second wiring for the driver's master control. The master on/off just cuts power to the other switches. The factory manual is priceless for its wiring diagrams . . . well worth the money. Hope that helps.

Re: Cruise Control

Thanks for the info. That will help a bunch. This GW has a two barrel carb but we will eventually switch to fuel injection.

Re: Cruise Control

If you get a hold of the Haynes manual (the Chilton's is really hard to read)they have super excellent wiring diagrams for both the cruise and the window circuits. Hope that helps.
