We (my kids and I) took our 89' Gwagoneer on it's first real long trip since I've had it(a year). We drove from Jackson ,Ms. down to Destin Fl. Had a great time as their first time to the beach and second camping. Ok, to the point. Gas mileage was better than I had gotten on shorter highway trips(13.7). I was pleased with that. Now the problem. When stopping and turning off the motor. (getting gas or piss stops). Starting back up. The starter would lug almost to the point of not turning over on a couple of times. I have a Champion4X4 850 cranking amp battery and put a new started on not long after I got the jeep. I am assuming that it's a heat problem. It's fine after it's been sitting a bit. But , is it heat to the battery or to the starter or what? This seams to have just started doing thing this.
I had the same problem.... VERY hard starting AFTER she was warmed up.... sound familiar?....let it sit for 30 min or jump it and she fired up ...right? I bought a battery.... no cure.... I bought a solenoid ...no cure.... guess what.... starter was getting heat soaked!!! Testing the starter, it showed all is well..go figure. I bought a starter from Auto Zone for $26.99 and haven't had a problem since..... BUY A STARTER!!!! well worth the $26.99
