Cherokee and Pickup
I currently have a 79 Cherokee Wide Track that I have put all kinds of work into rebuilt engine (401), rebuilt trans (th400), new guts in the QT transfer case, Detroit true-track lsd front and rear...... I have decided that I really need a truck and would like to find a J-10 that I could swap engine, trans, transfer case, axles, and some other goodies. I was wondering if anyone knows what years of J-10 trucks would be a direct swap?

Re: Cherokee and Pickup
'76 to '79 are the best choices, followed by '80 and newer. The older frames were different and if you swap springs, some parts may be slightly different. Stay away from '73 and older. '74-'75 may work too but the frames aren't as beefy as the later ones. The axles and drivetrain will swap into these. Whichever you choose, you may have to modify or swap your wire harness depending on which alternator and ignition system you have.

Re: Cherokee and Pickup
How about swapping a J-truck body onto the Cherokee's frame? You could shorten the bed or do a flat-bed conversion...
