How do I shift my Quadratrac

I just bought a '77 jeep pickup with a 401,auto tranny, and quadratrac t-case. I found the shifter under the seat, but I can't seem to get it into low gear, what am I doing wrong?
Also, could anyone tell me what model transmission I have?
thanks.

Re: How do I shift my Quadratrac

The low range lever can only be shifted to low when your TH400 trans is in neutral.... then you put it back in D and you have a 2.57:1 low range.

Coming out of low range, you don't need to stop but neutral must be engaged in the trans at about 5-10 MPH to get back to hig range...you can stop ...but no need.

Re: How do I shift my Quadratrac

On a truck the "up" position is the low range position. It is a 3 position set up. Up = low, middle = neutral (used only if you need to flat tow) and down which is high range/normal driving position.

It helps if the vehicle is rolling under 3mph with the tranny in neutral when you shift into low range.

Re: How do I shift my Quadratrac

The guys are both right about the shifting procedures...a good tranny shop should be able to help with pan interchangeability..sorry, can't help there.

Re: How do I shift my Quadratrac

The t400 in the jeeps is the same T400 as the Chevys. Only difference is the case has the special bellhousing for AMC engines. Other than that, the guts and oil pan are all GM.
