Reliable ignition?

I'm about to ditch the old prestolite system on my '75 AMC 360. It seems to have a mind of it's own. My main concern is reliability and better mid to high range performance. I would like to tow my camper trailer at 55mph without the engine sounding like it's struggling. I've been looking at DUI, MSD, and Jacobs as possible sources and just wondered if anyone has any tips or suggestions. Thanks.

Chris

Re: Reliable ignition?

I pull my camper and was satisfied with performance of the stock ignition, reliabilty on the other hand...I have just purchased the Jacobs Pro-Street w/Uphill Power Module, after talking with several people, for my 83 Wagon. According to specs, I should gain 20-23 HP, I forget what the torque gain is and fuel economy improves by 15%. To sweeten the deal, it's a piece of cake to install and to remove later if you want to put it in something else. Their tech's are very helpful and can answer all your questions. Good luck.

tfi? Haven't heard of it. Tried to find it on the IFSJA but don't know what it's under.

Re: Reliable ignition?

You can also search the SWB board under the title of Team Rush upgrade or just plain TR. You should find a ton of info as well as part numbers.

Re: Reliable ignition?

definately go with the ford tfi system. You'll find nothing more reliable. Brendan

Re: Reliable ignition?

heres a link to my write-up on converting to an electronic/TFI system. Just substitute a V-8 distributor for the I-6 one and its all the same.

Re: Reliable ignition?

basically TFI ( or Teamrush) is the later 80s Jeep Durapsark with a larger distributer cap, and a TFI coil instead of the older type, its a good reliable system, very cheap.reliable and easy to wire up.

and if you wish you can ad a MSD 6a box to ad a little more firepower, still cheaprer than Jacobs and WAY better, BTW dont buy anyhting from Jacobs they arent highly regarded if you search around much.

many customer complaints.

GO stock AMC/FORD and it works great

Re: Reliable ignition?

Is this the Duraspark Jeep started using in '77? Or am I missing something? I can easily get ahold of a duraspark setup at the junkyard, or buy it new I guess. I remenber when Jp mag did an MSD box to the Ford distributor. I'll swing over to the SWB and see what I can find. All your help is appreciated.
