81 Cherokee Wide Tract

Hey Thanks for all the posts, they have helped me as I've evs-dropped! I bought an 81 Cherokee Wide tract last week and my wife and I are planning to fix it up over the next few years. I have a couple of questions though. The headliner is gone and the instrument panel is missing a couple guages. I've looked in the local junkyards and they have few and hard to find parts. Any suggestions for soft body Parts?

Also, the fender flares are gone. Is there anyone out there that has used some of those JC Whitney flares for CJ's?

The motor is very strong. It has headers and an edelbrock carb--former owner. It think the tranny is a 3PD torqueflight. Is this a pretty heavy tranny or should I replace it with a TH400 or 350? It shifts hard and firm and has great fluid color--no burnt or bad smell.

Lastly, I want to paint it Burgundy or Red. What colors did cherokees offer. Would a new Dodge Red be bad?

P.S.--The Factory Jeep manual has a lot of useful info. Those of you looking for good sepcs should definately buy one for your particular year. Mine has everything from teardown to body fixes. They run about $75 from Jeep/Chyrysler. For me the axle specs came in very handy. There is also a section that covers VIN numbers. Those of you trying to find out what you have in your Jeep would find this extra helpful. I would have never known mine was a wide tract without it!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
