Advice for Swap or rebuild
Just inherited a 1980 J-10 360CI V-8 TF-727 auto mated to a NP208 transfer case. Looks like a Dana 44 front and an AMC-20 rear end. The engine is not holding oil pressure over 20lbs, leaks oil like crazy, over heats and has less power then a go-ped. What way do I go to rebuild/replace for muscle and strength for rock crawling at 10,000 feet. If I work on this and wait till 2005 for the emissions and plates, it will be the only time that would need to be done as I would be able to register it as a classic and not have to do the emission check again in Colorado. Time and a moderate budget and limited but eager to learn wrenching skills are what I have.
