][-][elp...

I just bought an '88 wagoneer, leaks oil and ATF. So i replaced the rear main seal and the transmission seal.

didn't help... i have two ?'s i was hoping ya'll could help with:

1. can the TF 727 transmission, or any automatic for that reason, leak fluid where the shift linkages enter? (this is where the leak appears to be originating)

2. Is it more likely that i have a valve cover leak or a leaking head gasket? (the oil leak is coming from high on the passenger side of the engine)

i really appreciate any help you can give

p.s. i now realize why my PO never bothered to fix the oil or tranny leak... Under the 1/4" of oil and sludge ther is not a spot of rust on this baby

Head gasket: not likely. Valve cover gasket: could be. Just replace it. Other possibilities: dipstick tube to engine O-ring, oilfilter to engine connection.

Good luck.
