tranny question?

wasnt getting any action in the IH or dodge forums, so here goes. I recently aquired a 73 scout II with a 258 inline 6 and a tf 727 tranny. Now what im wondering is what the strengths and weeknesses of this tranny are? And whats the average lifetime on them also?

Re: tranny question?

I had a 727 in a Full size Waggie, and I can say that it is a solid piece of equipment. The one I had was better than 180 K miles old, and as long as it had the right amount of fluid in it it would run like a champ. Even with the 6K pound truck on top of it. It has no overdrive, and it is only a three speed, but if you need somthing super strong it is what to have.

Re: tranny question?

All of the late model GWs came with that tranny. I have one in mine and have no complaints. It has a reputation for being a solid tranny, even if it is a Chrysler. I haven't heard of any weak points. My Wag has over 140k miles on the original tranny (as far as I know).
