I need to find a place on the web where I can get the specs for the D44 such as WMS, knuckle design and such. I'm interested in swapping one into my Chevy (Don't Ask!!!!!!) Just need the info. Thank you.
What kind of chevy are you planning to swap into? Front or rear? 76 and earlier half ton P/Us and blazers had factory installed Dana 44s. In 77 they went to the ten bolt corporate axle. If you are planning to put a waggy 44 in a full size chevy, you will be a couple inches too narrow. You will be a couple inches too wide on an S-10. Good luck.
Oops. It's a K-5. I already have a D44, just want the spring under and can't really find anything about the full size Jeeps on the 'Net. Only thing I've seen so far is 62" whereas the Chevy is 69", so it's not looking good, but would appreciate all links for this sort of good info on the full size Jeeps that I can find.
Can't give you a link, but I can tell you that every Jeep fullsize pickup I've seen was spring-over from the factory. Your best bet would be to find "wide track" Cherokee, or even better (since you already have a 44), find a good welder and have him/her rotate your spring perches from top to bottom. Might even do it for a 12-pack!!!
My 81 Cherokee chief came with a Dana 44 front with a 61" WMS to WMS. It was spring under up front. It came with, what they call a heavy duty, model 20 rear. I believe it has one piece axles from the factory. The rear came in the spring over configuration. Hope this helps.
