What vintage Grand Waggie would you buy?

I'm beginning to look for a full size Grand Waggie (360 v8) for a daily driver and weekend CJ hauler. What years would you recommend. What should I watch out for? I'd prefer an automatic but I think that limits me to full time quadratrac (is this good or bad???)

Re: What vintage Grand Waggie would you buy?

The "grand" wagoneers were made from 84-91 and have the np229 t-case (except for '86 which had the np228) so you are not limited to the quadratrac. However I think they all came with the 727 auto tranny. If you live in a area that requires smog testing you might want to make sure the smog equipment is still intact. FSJ Facts
Check for framerail rust on the left side of frame where the gas tank is mounted. You could also look for one with a HD tow package. My 88 has the HD factory tow package and came with a big tranny cooler, soild reciever hitch, and a RV trailer plug(7 point?). I don't tow with mine but many people that do say to install some HD adjustable gas shocks to keep "wag sag" to a minimum while towing. I hope you find a good deal on a nice wag.
