Re: QUADRATRAC 4WD SWITCH ?\'S

Mine had the same problem when I got it. The switch is vacuume operated. Here is a pretty good guide to trouble shooting it.
With the Jeep on flip the switch with your ear real close. Can you hear vacuume, or air hissing? If you can then the switch has air going to it. That means that the problem is probably between the switch and the X case. Get under the jeep and check the linkage and vac lines running to your Xcase.

If you do not hear air when the switch is tossed then the problem is between the engine manafold and the switch.
Open the hood and find the softball sized and shaped vac canaster on the firewall. Probably right behind the engine. Follow all of the lines running to and from that check for leaks. When you find one, replace that line, and I bet you will be in luck.

I concur with the other reply to your post but if it is the switch I happen to have a couple around 10 bucks will cover price and shipping

Had the same kinda problem with my 76 Cherokee. It was a case of the vacuum line slipping off the cannister at back of transfer case. Finally had to glue it on with sealer.
