Buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee

I'm looking to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee for my soon to be wife. I'm looking at a 1993 to a 1996 as they seem to have the best safety and reliability ratings out of the newer models. I'm also interested in getting the V8 and the sunroof so I'll probably end up with a 95 or 96 in order to get those options. The main reason I want the V8 is because I can see myself towing a flatbed trailer with a car on it to the race track, and will likely to some occasional off-road driving in it (not to mention that I like power). Any opinions on this matter would be appreciated.

My Real question is about the technical specs on the V8 for the different years, as in HP Torque, gas mileage, etc. Iím defiantly going to want a 4WD, and from what I can tell thereís probably not a lot of differences in the trannyís. I've searched all over the internet for answers, but seem to be unable to find all the information I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Re-ask this on the mid-size Jeep forum. You'll have a bit more luck with your question.

Re: Buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee

So if a Grand Cherokee isn't a full size, what is?

FSJs are 63- 83 Jeep Wagoneers, 84-91 Grand Wagoneers, 63(?)-87 Full-Size Pickups, and 73-83 Cherokees. These vehicles are characterized by their large size and weight, poor gas mileage, and ability to go just about anywhere

And come back under their own power, without having to be towed out because their CV joints broke!! (Almost all FSJs have U-joints on the front axle.)

Re: Buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have a 1993 Grand Cherokee Laredo if your looking for a tow vehicle make sure you get the tow package. as for the V8 I kinda like my gas milage on my I6 4.0 and in my opinion the V8's really don't have much on me. The grand cherokee s are great offroaders and they aren't hard to custom fab rediculous suspention mods to achieve exelent articulation. Well you probly already have your GC by now but if not hope I have helped you out.

Re: Buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have a 95 Grand Cherokee. 211000 miles. Just put rebuilt engine in, rebuilt front end and working my way back. Marvelous machines. I have towed trailer with car. Been off road and couldn't be happier. Mileage varies 15-18 depending on conditions. highly recommend them.
